a Dean’s List case study: Underdog Protocol

In this post you will find a short case study co-authored by myself, which we presented to the Solana foundation to show how Dean’s List adds value by helping Web3 startups unleash their potential and thrive in the Solana ecosystem.

Underdog Protocol is a platform where you can mint, manage and index your NFTs all in one place. It enables direct integration to your platform thanks to their Underdog API, so that your users can seamlessly claim NFTs for every action with zero gas costs, and without even connecting your crypto wallet. You might have guessed it already: this is a perfect example of what OPOS (Only Possible On Solana) represents. Since we reviewed Underdog Protocol in Q2 2023, many other Solana protocols have found utility in it, from our own Dean’s List DAO to the Solana Mobile team, and even small projects who recently submitted to the Hyperdrive hackathon (happening right now in October 2023). Dean’s List gives temporary access to approved visitors who applied to contribute to our work for a month, using what we named a “Business Visa”, which is an NFT with an expiration date created on Underdog Protocol.

6 months ago, the Underdog Protocol had just been created and launched, and the founders came to Dean’s List to consult us on several matters, such as the UX in the first version of their app, as well as the alignment between the design of the overall platform (website + app) and their different user segments. Indeed, the Underdog Protocol strives to be an all-in-one NFT management platform for both savvy coders and people with zero coding knowledge, which are two different user segments. Therefore, the challenge was to develop an equally good onboarding process for both segments, and to best communicate the value proposition of Underdog Protocol to the general public, in order to boost user adoption and thrive in the Solana ecosystem.

This 12-page case study was written by a colleague from Dean’s List and myself (& background design, layout formatting and first page design by myself), and it showcases in more detail how the team of blockchain power users of Dean’s List made a deep dive into Underdog Protocol, by selecting a list of the most crucial aspects that we thought the Underdog team had to improve on: website presentation (value proposition, services, pricing), app UX (onboarding, bugs, etc.), and social media strategy (branding, customer acquisition through social platforms). The case study was written in August 2023, and at the time of writing this post (October 2023), the Underdog team has improved even more on website presentation and onboarding: go check them out!
